Sometimes I have clients that need to send me large files, and this can be quite a difficult situation, because the files are too big for email and the client does not have their own FTP server . Our support team on occasion set up FTP accounts so clients can send us large files. This takes a small amount of time to set up, and also assumes that the client has FTP software to upload the files to our servers.
I came across https://www.getdropbox.com/ a few months ago, and I am very impressed. I have two different computers in my office, Laptop (pc) for normal everyday work, and a desktop (iMac) for testing client websites in a Mac environment and general personal use. When I need to send files from one machine to the other, either I have to email or put them on a memory stick, this was a bit of a pain until now.
If you need a solution like this, go to www.getdropbox.com download the software and set it up on your machine. You can download the software on a second machine and use the same login as you did on the first install, and this will synchronize both drop boxes. Once you are set up you will have the ability to drag and drop files into the Dropbox folder. There is a public folder “\dropbox\My Dropbox\Public” which will allow you to share files with computers that are not synchronized to your account.
Best of all the software is free and you get a 2 GB quota, but you can upgrade to 50GB for $99 a year or $9.99 a month.
A list of FAQ’s can be seen here -- https://www.getdropbox.com/faq

According to our buddy Vint Cerf, the so called "father of the internet," we are on the verge of running out of IP addresses. He told the Times of London that if we don't act now, the connectivity to the internet could be permanently damaged.
"Its not as easy as adding a new number to the end of new IP addresses," he said. "It's going to take a little more smart thought than that."

So I ask you "Internet Padre", what do you suggest we do?
Or is this just your way of getting back your 'celebrity status' within the internet world? Do what the rest of us do: start a rumor that Paris or Brittany is carrying your baby.

The T-Mobile G1 with Google is the first commercially available phone to run on the 'Android' operating system, which empowers developers with tools to create and offer consumers applications that add value to their lives. This is one of many initiatives T-Mobile is working on to lead the industry in bringing real innovation to wireless customers.

.... when they designed the user interface for the sign up area.
I tried to sign into my Play Station 3, to see what items where available to download from the online store. I could not remember my password so I signed up for a new account.
Email – not an issue I entered my gmail account
Password -- (at least 6 characters) again not an issue, (I thought)
Security Question – Mother’s maiden name (again not an issue)

Everything looks fine (however, it took me about three min's to add all the details due to fat fingers and using the controller )
Then I seen this screen (I turned red with anger)

They didn’t say anything about the password having to contain at least one number or any character 2 times in a row. I was annoyed 3 minutes is not that long but it would have taken me 10 seconds on a keyboard, I used the controller to add the details which is painful for anyone that has tried.
How hard would it have been for the PlayStation team to add these details to the first screen? I am not a game developer but I can’t imagine it would be that hard, due to Sony not managing my expectations, and wasting my time. I didn’t purchase anything from the store after I finally logged in.
This goes for website owners also, if you require anything that is not what a user is expecting alert them so they don’t get frustrated and go to your competitor.

You may have read my post from last week on how I missed out on a big opportunity with MY feedbag restaurant idea. Oh well. These things happen. But not twice in a week!
I get home last night and my wife tells me about this article about technology unleashing the power of exercising.
Seems some kid ripped me off, and right here in my own backyard! "He" had the idea for converting the energy from cardio machines at the gym in to electricity. Sure he did. Only thing is I blogged about it back on April fool's day, as part of my "trick the staff in to thinking we are going to make them pedal at their desks all day to save the earth" program. Read it for yourself here: Pedaling Towards a Carbon Neutral Company - 352 Media Goes Green!
So obviously I was kidding in that post, but it did get me thinking. In fact, the next time I was at the gym I even talked about the idea with one of the employees there that I've gotten to know. I guess an idea is only worth something only if you act on it. Good lesson, even though it seems obvious. However we all sit here and complain about gas prices, but are we really willing to step up and do something about it? The ideas are out there...
From now on I'm going to patent everything I say.

Since the 80's, multitasking has been all the rage. Never going out of fashion like the hair bands did (thank the Gods). This is unlikely to change but there are always little tools that help us cope. Anyone remember those calendars that took up most of your desk? Well here is the digital version. A handy little app* that displays different elements of Outlook on your desktop. Even with a ton of windows open with the click of a button (XP and Vista users can Show Desktop, and OSX users can use Expose) you've got your calendar, inbox, address book, notes or tasks, plain as day looking right at you.
*Disclaimer: this is a 3rd party application which is in no way affiliated or sanctioned by 352 Media Group, Inc.

1 billion Gigabytes. That is 1 with 18 zeros after it. 1,000,000,000,000,000,000! Seems like an overwhelmingly large number doesn't it? Well not any more. IDC with the help of EMC have undertaken the task of finding out just how much digital data is out there. And guess what? Its in the Exabytes. About 281 and growing very quickly. Bellow is a ticker of just the new data created or replicated since the beginning of THIS YEAR!
EMC has a cool little flash app that you can download and estimate your own digital foot print. And with it all sorts of privacy issues come to mind. I'm at 11GB. Apparently there is twice this related to me I don't even know about, out there in the ether of cyberspace. Download the executive summary and see if you're interested in reading the whole white paper.

Now I am not what you would call an "early adopter" of technology. Over the years I have been called stubborn and obtuse with what I consider loyalty to certain things in my life.
I never have the latest phone or camera, but that in itself is not unusual. A couple of years ago I finally cut my Prodigy email only after SBC (who had bought them at some point in the early 2000's) had made a mistake and not billed me for awhile. Then one day I got a bill for like $70 for an email address that I had just been forwarding for years. Well I called them up and after several hours, I had cut the cord to dial-up all together.
Well I was reading this article in the NYTimes and there are people even more sad than I am as they themselves are ever so slowly moving away from the Netscape Browser that is no longer being supported.
Come on people, let's get with the program here! I am even considering getting a new phone that has some web capabilities, and I might even get it before Web 3.0 comes about. As soon as someone can tell me what exactly is Web 2.0!
